President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described as ‘unfortunate,’ the incident at the Kintampo Water Falls that led to the death of 18 students on Sunday.
The students, from the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School and the University of Energy and Natural Resources, lost their lives when a tree along the banks of the waterfall came crashing down during a heavy downpour.
Some 22 critically injured people are also receiving treatment at the hospital.
Nana Akufo-Addo in a tweet on Monday said it was an “unfortunate incident”.
“I have learnt with great sadness, the unfortunate incident that occurred at Kintampo Waterfalls yesterday. My deepest condolences to the families of all those affected by this unfortunate and tragic incident,” he tweeted.
The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku has expressed her condolences to the families of victims in the Kintampo Water Falls accident.
The Minister, in a statement released on Sunday, asked the public to refrain from circulating images of the dead and injured.
Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia is also on his way to the site of the incident and also to console the families of the injured and bereaved.
