The Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, has stressed the need for all the 31 supporters unions in the country to unite into one body and forge ahead in their support for the various national teams.

He advocated that a meeting of all the supporters unions in the country be held to build a consensus and work together for the betterment of Ghana Sports.

He charged stakeholders in sports to take politics out of sports and called for a united front by the supporters unions to be used for a good cause.

The Sports Minister made these comments when the leadership of the Die-Hard Supporters Union, made up of its president, Abraham Nkansah; Akwesi Agyemang, coordinator of the union; and Mary Osei Gyambrah, the secretary, paid a courtesy call on him at Parliament House in Accra last Friday.

Mr Nkansah displayed to the Minister the over 13 plaques and awards won by the union since its formation, including the GFA best supporter award for the 2014/2015 season, the best supporters group of the year for 2013 and the Ghana Sports Excellence best supporters group award.

Mr Nkansah, well known in sporting circles as “Apuirugu Chakapaama” appealed to the Minister for support and guidance for the union to be better positioned as an effective tool for sports development.

He mentioned the efforts and strides made by his outfit to grow and develop the sports, including paying up for themselves to travel to anywhere in the world that the national teams were in action.

Mr Nkansah, on behalf of the union, expressed optimism in the Minister and promised to work towards building a united supporters union as being envisaged by the minister.

The sector Minister lauded the group for its effort and added that the state would support and back the existence of such groups.
