A HOUSEBOY at Ofankor in the Ga West municipality of the Greater Accra Region is cooling off in police cells for allegedly killing his master, Samuel Kwabena Poku, aged 60, in cold blood.

The suspect, Vanwood Kofi Asante, who is in the custody of the Ministries Police Station and expected to appear before court today, has accordingly confessed to killing Mr. Poku after they both had reportedly had a brief argument last Thursday, March 9, 2017.

This reportedly occurred after Mr Samuel Kwabena Poku had returned from his base in London to attend a friend’s funeral in Ghana and to undertake some investment projects.

Initially, the family of the deceased, based on information given to it by the suspect, had reported to the Ofankor police that Mr. Poku had gone missing.

The suspect was said to have told the family that Mr Poku left home to meet some unnamed persons who had called him for a purported meeting.

However, all efforts by his family to reach him on his cell phones proved futile, which led to suspicion that something untoward might have happened to him.

His son then had to travel from Kumasi to Accra to inquire about what might have gone wrong.

However, on Wednesday, March 15, the truth came out when the deceased’s burnt body was discovered at the Police Hospital morgue.

His charred body was said to have been discovered around Pokuase, Accra, and was sent to the hospital for autopsy with residents suspecting that the man might have been lynched by armed robbers.

Some neighbours of the deceased who became suspicious, caused the arrest of the houseboy for interrogation, claiming that they heard the man shouting for help previously.

The case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters and DAILY GUIDE learned that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed killing his master.

According to sources who witnessed the interrogation process, the houseboy narrated that he killed Poku after a short argument.

The argument, DAILY GUIDE understands, resulted from claim by the houseboy that he (houseboy) had used an undisclosed amount of money to do some maintenance works in the house of his boss and wanted a refund but his boss only promised him GH¢1,000 which he (houseboy) claimed was too meagre.

The Mr Poku had allegedly argued that he could not pay him (suspect) all the amount he was claiming because he (Poku) had opened a barbering salon for him (suspect) from which he was saving some money in a bank; and that the houseboy apparently used part of the income he earned from the barbering business to do the maintenance works.

In the heat of the argument, Mr Poku had reportedly asked the suspect to pack out of his Ofankor house, resulting in a fight and that he (Poku) used a shovel to hit the suspect and he in return used the same shovel to hit him, which led to his death.

Initially after the killing, the suspect confessed to have attempted to take the body into his master’s car parked in the compound and throw it away but realized that it was heavy.

So he (suspect) decided to take it into the garden at the back of the house and use dry palm and plantain leaves around to burn the body in order to reduce its weight before finally taking it to another location for disposal, according to the source.

What seemed to have caused the suspicion that the houseboy might have a hand in the murder of Mr. Poku was that he (suspect) confessed to denying entry to a female friend of the deceased into the premises in which he committed the act, just a few minutes after the incident.

The lady friend of the deceased had apparently gone to the house to find out whether all was well with Mr. Poku, as according to our sources, on that fateful day, some neighbours claimed they had heard the man shouting, “He is killing me, he will kill me,” and just at that point lights went out in the house.
