Ghanaian gospel singer and Vodafone Ghana Music Award nominee, Jeshurun Okyere has said the late Hi-Life singer Daasebre Gyamenah should have been given a state burial.

According to him, Daasebre’s contribution to Ghana’s music industry is enormous and must be duly recognized.

Daasebre Dwamena died in the early hours of Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The celebrated musician’s burial has become a matter of controversy between family members since his death. This is due to the fact that he was also a Muslim with the name Abubakar Siddiq.

Shortly after his death, his Muslim family wanted to bury him on that same day. Following deliberations between his Christian and Muslim families, an agreement was reached for burial on a different date.

“… If we gave this man a good befitting burial, a State burial with all the musician that were going to come all that hype will come to the family,” he said on Starr FM’s mid-morning show, The Zone.

The father of the late musician has scheduled his funeral for April 1, this year.

He added that the back and forth over Daasebre’s funeral is a sign of disrespect to the fraternity he was associated with.

“The best thing you can have after entertaining people the whole of your life is to be respected when you leave the earth. Most of these guys go through a lot, but they have to come to the studio and make us happy when they are not happy themselves. The least we can do is to celebrate them when they are gone”.
