Bimbila RuinsRuins after clashes

The Police in Bimbilla have arrested one of those who allegedly shot and killed 10 people in last month’s chieftaincy disturbances that rocked the Nanumba North District capital. Abdulai Sang, a native of Bimbilla in the Northern Region, was arrested at about 04:00pm at the office of the New Patriotic Party in the town after he emerged from his hideout.

One of the victims who was on the verge of death was said to have mentioned Sang as the one who shot her and nine others in the chieftaincy disturbances of February 9 which led to the death of children and women.

Though Northern Regional Police Command is yet to officially comment on the arrest, 3news.com has gathered some youth of the New Patriotic Party in Bimbilla massed up at the Nanumba-North District Police station to demand the release of Sang. The police ignored threats by the youth who said failure to release the suspect would cause them to set fire on the station.

But in view of the threat, the Police immediately transferred the suspect to the Northern Regional Police headquarters in Tamale where he is being held.

Background

Gunshots were heard on Thursday, February 9, 2017 after one faction in the longstanding chieftaincy dispute enskinned a warrior king. Two people died and several others injured in the bloody clash.
