Former Asante Kotoko, Ebusua Dwarfs Coach JE. Sarpong has advised the Ghana Football Association to employ ex- Ghana captain Kwesi Appiah as Avram Gran’s successor.

Ghana is currently without a coach after Avram Grant’s contract expiration in February.

Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi spearheads a committee set up to appoint a new Ghana coach to take over from Avram Grant with several top expatriate coaches submitting their CV for the job.

But according to the veteran coach, the former Ghana captain has a remarkable ‘track-record’ which makes him the right candidate for the vacant position.

Speaking on Kumasi based Abusua FM, he argued that ”if Kwesi Appiah managed to qualify Ghana for the 2014 mundial in Brazil then he stands tall managing the Black Stars again”.

Coach Sarpong indicated that though he would want the country’s football governing body [GFA] to appoint a local coach to manage the Black Star, he would be elated to see the comeback of Kwesi Appiah.

”Ghanaians would want to see the coming back of Kwesi Appiah but personally I think his comeback would be ‘a positive one and victory’ for him” He said.

”I would have wished Kwesi Appiah is appointed as Ghana’s next coach because he did well in my opinion when he was handed the opportunity for the very first time in 2012”.

‘’I can say for a fact that some of the media had hand in Kwesi Appia’s exit because they chastised him continuously with some suggesting he was too soft for the job forgetting that he was our own and needed massive support from us but trust me Appiah did a wonderful job as the Black Stars Coach’’.

”Apart from the late CK Gyamfi and the likes who won the four African titles no foreign coach has been able to win any African trophy for us so why doing we keep wasting our time on such coaches, no white man can give us glory if you ask me”.

”Personally from where I sit now I think Kweesi Appiah should be giving the job because he has built his capacity to the world-class level and for someone to qualify you to the world cup means that he has the technical knowledge to do it again”.

”For me I disagree with people who say Appiah didn’t do anything extraordinary as the Black Stars coach because even Jesus Christ was crucified but at the end it was this same Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins”.

”Kwesi was gradually building the Black Stars team but got sacked under some controversial circumstances and Avram Grant came to enjoy his work. What exactly did Grant do, he only brought in two players who were not even needed in the team but we had Appiah who was extending invitations to local players because he had the opportunity to play for the Black Stars from the local team perspective”.
