Appointments of IGP, CDS and Chief of Army confirmed

President Nana Akufo-Addo has confirmed the appointment of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces and Chief of Army Staff. 

In a press statement Friday and signed by the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, it said the President in consultation with the Council of State, confirmed the appointments of David Asante Apeatu as the next IGP, Maj. Gen. Obed Boamah Akwa as CDS and Maj. Gen. William Azure Ayamdo as Chief of Army Staff.

COP David Asante Apeatu takes over from John Kudalor who announced his retirement on January 21, 2017.

Until his appointment, Major Akwa was the Chief of Army who also served as the Commandant of the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Center (KAPTC) staff. He took over from Air Marshall Samson Oje who has retired from the Army. 

Major General Azure Ayamdo was the Commandant of the Military Training and Academy School prior to his appointment. 

The said appointments take effect forthwith.​

APPOINTMENT OF INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE, CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF, AND CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF
 
Pursuant to Articles 202 and 212 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has, in consultation with the Council of State, confirmed the appointments of the following persons:

1. Mr. David Asante Appeatu – Inspector General of Police
 
2. Maj. Gen. Obed Boamah Akwa – Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces
 
3. Maj. Gen. William Azure Ayamdo – Chief of Army Staff
 
The said appointments take effect forthwith.
