Rapper Armstrong Affum, popularly known by the stage name Dadie Opanka, has cut his afro hairstyle which he had been wearing for some years.
According to the Tema-based musician, his new hairstyle was influenced by his mother and followers (fans).
“Keeping afro was a lot of work and I wanted to change my looks so I cut it. As a musician, you must also give your fans what they want. I am feeling myself within my new hairstyle,” he disclosed in an interview with Daily Heritage.
“Though my fans are the reason I am a household name in Ghana when it comes to freestyle, I think as a young man, I must also listen to my mother when she says something.”
The rapper quoted Ephesian 6: 1-3, which states that, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honour your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on earth”, and added that “my mother knows what is good for me.”
Opanka’s new look will make you wonder why he kept long in cutting his afro hairstyle. He looks handsome.
Dadie Opanka came to the limelight with a freestyle he did on Bradez’ song ‘Simple’, which went viral and he later followed up with his official single ‘Taste’ which also became an instant hit and “talk of the town”, and up till date, he’s the only Ghanaian with the most popular Freestyle Cover.
Based on the size of his fandom, known as the ‘Opanka-Army’, he’s rated one of the top five Ghanaian musicians with the most interactive fans by some bloggers presenting him as having almost 300K Facebook likes, 22K+ Twitter followers about 10K Instagram followers. Thus, he’s rated one of the top Ghanaians with strong social media influence.
He has collaborated with most Ghanaian top musicians and one of the collaborations which he did with Kwaw Kese, ‘Popping’, won the ‘Best Hiphop Song of the Year’ on Ghana Music Awards (2012).
He has performed on bigger platforms nationwide like the Ghana Music Awards and also performed on the same stage as super stars like T-Pain and Mavado. He has released two Mixtape Albums (‘Definition of T.E.M.A’ and ‘Born Again’).
Currently Opanka is out with his debut album titled ‘Akwaaba’ (meaning welcome).
