Leroy Sane’s goal in Man City 5-3 Monaco costs punter €34k on bet

While Man City’s breathless 5-3 win over Monaco provided a night of thrilling entertainment for the vast majority of its audience, the final result came as heartbreak to one punter.

Indeed, when John Stones put City 4-3 as the game entered its final stages, Mustafa Celik was minutes away from landing a massive €34,200, having also correctly predicted the outcome of Atletico Madrid’s similarly goal-heavy match against Bayer Leverkusen.

Sadly for the luckless fan, Leroy Sane went and iced the cake by adding City’s fifth goal of the evening just a few minutes later, thus spoiling the accumulator entirely.

“You owe me €32,400 Leroy Sane,” Celik grumbled on Twitter while posting a photo of his freshly worthless betting slip.

So close, and yet so far.
