A female police officer has lost her one month-old baby after fire gutted Navrongo Police barracks in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality in the Upper East Region.
Joy News sources say the police officer left the baby in her room to attend to nature’s call when the structure caught fire.
She came to the scene following shouts from other officers who were unable to enter her room due to the intensity of the inferno.
It took a cumulative effort of fire service personnel and police officers to douse the fire before they were able to rescue the baby.
Reports say the baby was alive when she was rescued, but later died while she was being rushed to the hospital.
It is unclear what caused the fire. Sources close to Joy News say the female police officer is traumatised.
