Nominations for the 18th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards are yet to be compiled and released but the usual controversies that shroud the scheme have commenced in earnest.

This portal, www.entertainmentgh.com, reported on a claim by Communications Head for Charterhouse Ghana (organizers of VGMA) George Quaye, that, the most bribe offers that come to him in exchange for the awards come from the gospel fraternity.

The statement has sparked some grave banter among industry stakeholders and music followers and it has also generated some angst among some gospel artists – including Cwesi Oteng.

A former winner of the VGMA, Cwesi took to his twitter handle to call for a total boycott of the Awards by the gospel fraternity.

As monitored by www.entertainmentgh.com, he followed up on the protestation on Hitz FM 103.9, when he spoke to KMJ on ‘Daybreak Hitz’ – reiterating his call.

“We should boycott until he comes out to mention names,” he said.

He also spoke about how the assertion by George will destroy their brand.

“VGMA cannot use their brand to destroy others if they cannot enhance them.”

More salvos;

“How will gospel artists look when they mount the VGMA platform? He should mention names and not generalize.”

Wait, there’s more from the ‘I Win’ singer;

“I do not think I will make any showing at the VGMAs this year. I do not see it happening. I don’t see myself mounting the platform.”
