Ghana defender Baba Rahman is set to sit out of action for several months after suffering Anterior cruciate ligament injury while in action for the Black Stars at the Africa cup of Nations, Schalke 04 have confirmed.

Baba was forced out the competition because of ACL injury he picked up in the Black Stars opening match against Uganda at the Stade de Port-Gentil.

The left-back underwent a successful surgery, which lasted for about two hours in Germany, on Monday under the supervision of one of the world’s leading specialists in knee operations Prof. Dr. Bonisch.

A statement on the German outfit’s official website read ‘’Abdul Rahman Baba’s injury to his left knee was found to be worse than was initially forecasted after his operation in Augsburg yesterday. It presented a picture of a complex rupture to his cruciate ligament along with tears to his internal and external cartilage.’’

‘’The operation was completed without any complications. The medical team estimate that Baba faces several months on the sidelines.’’

His recovery date however was not revealed.

Baba endured a torrid last season after signing for Chelsea from Augsburg for £21.7 million in August 2015.

Antonio Conte allowed the 22-year-old to join Schalke on a season-long loan at the beginning of August.
