Former Ghana international Laryea Kingson expects the Black Stars to improve on their performance in subsequent matches at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Ghana who are deemed slow starters in competitions manage to nick out a 1-0 win over Uganda in their opening Group game, a performance which has cast doubts among many Ghana football lovers who looked unconvinced with the display of the team against Uganda.

Coach Avram Grant’s men face a much stiffer opposition (Mali) on Saturday.

Laryea Kingston has urged the team to up their game in order to excel in the competition.

“The team need to up their game, the performance against Uganda was not so much convincing, they played well in the first half but they allowed the Ugandans to take over in the second half,” he spoke on GhOne TV.

“I believe if there was enough time, the Ugandans could have equalized because they were pressing us a lot.

“Now we will face a tougher side which is Mali and is not going to be easy, I just hope they up their game against Mali.

“Ofcouse they always say we are slow starters so let’s wait and see how the team will perform against Mali in their next game.”

The Black Stars sits top of Group D with 3 points. A win over Mali will see Ghana through to the next round of the competition.
