The Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, has indicated that the opening of new study centres across the country is to facilitate its Distance Education Program and offer students the opportunity to access university education conveniently at their doorsteps and at a manageable cost without sacrificing quality.
According to Professor Mawutor Avoke, such a breakthrough has been become necessary to aid workers that are on the distance education program to upgrade themselves and to reduce the financial burden of travelling for long distances.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of education, Winneba, was speaking at the matriculation of 7,768 fresh students under the distance education program.
“Students would no longer have to travel long distances from the lengths and breadths of the country to only one study centre to access education. In this regard, four new study centres located at Accra High School, Accra; Northern School of Business, Tamale; Offinso College of Education, Offinso; and Gbewaa College of Education, Pusiga have been established to bring education closer to students,” he stated.
Prof. Mawutor Avoke also challenged students of the University to go beyond mobile phone calls and explore diverse usages of the mobile phones by exploring the University’s learning modules and other applications that enhance learning on the internet.
“In addition, make good use of the UEW Distance Education App which we have mounted on Google playstore which has e-copies of your modules. Install the App on your tablets, computers and mobile phones and read the modules wherever you are. We will continue to strive to ensure that all your modules are supplied to you in good time.”
The Vice Chancellor also urged students to take advantage of the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship Fund for needy but brilliant students to gain financial support.
The fund has upon its inception provide support for sixty (60) beneficiaries.
