{"id":366150,"date":"2016-01-11T19:46:37","date_gmt":"2016-01-11T19:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/politics\/2016\/01\/11\/new-political-party-given-license-to-operate-by-ec\/"},"modified":"2016-01-11T19:46:37","modified_gmt":"2016-01-11T19:46:37","slug":"new-political-party-given-license-to-operate-by-ec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2016\/01\/11\/new-political-party-given-license-to-operate-by-ec\/","title":{"rendered":"New political party given license to operate by EC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/1487761224_949_nii.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A new political party has officially joined the fray ahead of the November 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The African Reform Movement (ARM) has been given a provisional license by the Electoral Commission to operate in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This brings to 25, the number of political parties licensed by the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party was founded and is led by medical doctor Nii Amu Darko who regularly\u00a0advocates for a complete change of Ghana\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, it is primary reason for Ghana\u2019s failings is not any individual or political party but the countries \u201cflawed\u201d constitution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> Dr. Nii Amu Darko said, \u201cThe fundamental problem of Ghana is not John Mahama, it\u2019s not Nana Akufu Addo\u2026 it is the constitution. It is a very flawed document.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The leader of the AMR party has further committed to highlight the reasons he believes the constitution of the land is the reasons for the countries woes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, \u201cWe are going to point out to Ghanaians why the misrule is so pervasive, why it is actually endemic. It is because the constitution allows all these things to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As an example of the perceived flaws in the constitution, Dr. Nii Amu Darko noted it gives the president too much power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He further stated his political party, if given the mandate to govern, will come out with a more rigid constitution to limit the president.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOur constitution is a discretional constitution which gives so much power to the president\u2026 We are going to come with a prescriptive constitution which actually limits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The AMR are also advocates of \u201cAfremocracy\u201d, a federal system of governance with an\u00a0elected national government and elected state governments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They view federalism as the most suitable system of governance\u00a0for effective decentralization in a multi-ethnic nation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2013<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citimonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p><!-- Quick Adsense WordPress Plugin: http:\/\/quicksense.net\/ --><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ctx-article-root\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new political party has officially joined the fray ahead of the November 2016 general elections.
