{"id":363437,"date":"2016-07-12T12:45:33","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T12:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/politics\/2016\/07\/12\/private-sector-should-invest-in-bulk-food-storage-minister\/"},"modified":"2016-07-12T12:45:33","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T12:45:33","slug":"private-sector-should-invest-in-bulk-food-storage-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2016\/07\/12\/private-sector-should-invest-in-bulk-food-storage-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Private sector should invest in bulk food storage \u2013 Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2016_05_20_34244.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, has urged the private sector to invest in the operations of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), as it is presently not well equipped to store enough food to ensure food security in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe private sector must see to the issue of the storage of commodities to regulate or supply to the market as a strategic investment opportunity,\u201d Dr. Alhassan said on the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>NAFCO was set up to, among other things, mop up excess produce from Ghanaian farmers in order to reduce post-harvest losses.<\/p>\n<p>But Dr. Alhassan believes the private sector must supplement the efforts of NAFCO in their attempts to address post-harvest losses after bumper harvests.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cthe government cannot build all the warehouses that we use or all the cold storage facilities that we use.
