{"id":324884,"date":"2016-10-23T05:21:59","date_gmt":"2016-10-23T05:21:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2016\/10\/23\/tina-mensah-chickens-out-of-weija-gbawe-parliamentary-debate\/"},"modified":"2016-10-23T05:21:59","modified_gmt":"2016-10-23T05:21:59","slug":"tina-mensah-chickens-out-of-weija-gbawe-parliamentary-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2016\/10\/23\/tina-mensah-chickens-out-of-weija-gbawe-parliamentary-debate\/","title":{"rendered":"Tina Mensah chickens out of Weija-Gbawe parliamentary debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/1.10072908.jpg\" width=\"\" height=\"\" title=\"NPP+parliamentary+candidate+Tina+Mensah\" class=\"kMediaObject\" \/><\/p>\n<p>NPP parliamentary candidate Tina Mensah<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for Weija-Gbawe constituency Tina Mensah and her supporters failed to turn up at a Town Hall debate for parliamentary candidates on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The debate being organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) with support from the Coalition for Domestic Elections Observers (CODEO) and the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) was providing a platform for the parliamentary aspirants to outline their vision to the constituents.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers said they were \u201ctaken by surprise\u201d following the \u201cconspicuous absence of the main opposition party at such an \u201cimportant national event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate Obuobia Darko-Opoku and her teeming supporters waited for close to two hours hoping the debate will come off, but had to leave the grounds \u2013 the Presbyterian Church at Gbawe \u2013 with disappointment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/1.10072905.jpg\" width=\"\" height=\"\" title=\"NDC+parliamentary+candidate+Obuobia+Darko-Opoku+%28Green+top%29+in+a+discussion+with+the+NCCE+boss\" class=\"kMediaObject\" \/><\/p>\n<p>NDC parliamentary candidate Obuobia Darko-Opoku (Green top) in a discussion with the NCCE boss<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s quite unfortunate it has ended up this way,\u201d Obuobia told the media. \u201cI\u2019ve been here throughout and ever ready and prepared for this anywhere and any day because I believe in democracy. The people will be the best judges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the main opposition is yet to issue any official reason for the late pull out, Patrick Kumor, the campaign manager of Madam Mensah, took to Facebook and described the intended debate as \u201ccooked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoing what\u2019s most important, not your cooked up debate!! @Project site at Wiaboman,\u201d Mr. Kumor posted on his Facebook wall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is total disrespect to the chiefs who have gathered here,\u201d a livid NDC supporter Agnes Momo Ashietey stated. \u201cI\u2019m disappointed in Tina Mensah and her people. It clearly shows she doesn\u2019t have us at heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m yet to decide who to vote for and was hoping the debate could help me make a choice. Automatically, the NDC woman Obuobia has my vote. I\u2019m touched by her calm demeanor as she waited patiently for things to work out. I\u2019m disappointed, but at least the NDC has my vote now,\u201d first-time voter Esther Frimpong said.<\/p>\n<p>The debate was eventually called off.
