{"id":323847,"date":"2016-10-17T15:09:01","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T15:09:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2016\/10\/17\/ppp-launch-online-petition-over-nduoms-disqualification\/"},"modified":"2016-10-17T15:09:01","modified_gmt":"2016-10-17T15:09:01","slug":"ppp-launch-online-petition-over-nduoms-disqualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2016\/10\/17\/ppp-launch-online-petition-over-nduoms-disqualification\/","title":{"rendered":"PPP launch online petition over Nduom\u2019s disqualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/PPP-1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP) has launched an online petition to collect one million signatures from Ghanaians to compel the Electoral Commission to reinstate the party\u2019s Flagbearer, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom as one of the presidential candidates in the 2016 elections.<\/p>\n<p>The PPP Flagbearer was disqualified by the Electoral Commission last week after it\u00a0noted that his nomination forms were not properly completed.<\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement of his disqualification, the party has taken various steps including suing the Commission in court to ensure the candidate is instated in the Presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>PPP\u2019s Director of Communications told <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> the petition is in response to the numerous calls from Ghanaians across the country to have Nduom in the presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>He said most of the complaints received by the party indicated Ghanaians were not comfortable with the EC\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of Ghanaians have faith in Dr Nduom and they believe he is the right man for the job and as a result of that they are uncomfortable by the decision of\u00a0the EC to disqualify Dr Nduom for the race,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the party have received calls from Ghanaians in and outside the country asking to make a statement against the EC\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been forced by our sympathizers and supporters to provide this opportunity for them so they make their statement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the petition which was opened on Sunday will be presented to the Electoral Commission (EC) after they receive at least a million signatures.<\/p>\n<p>Titled \u201cPetition by Ghanaians Eligible to Vote to Demand that the Electoral Commission Accepts the Nomination Papers of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom,\u201d the petition has gathered 680 signatures at press time on the party\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018PPP sues EC; seeks injunction on balloting of candidates\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP), last Friday <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/14\/ppp-sues-ec-seeks-injunction-on-balloting-of-candidates\/\">sued the Electoral Commission<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of Ghana (EC), at the High Court over the decision to disqualify it\u2019s presidential aspirant, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, from the December 7 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>The PPP among other things is seeking \u201can order of prohibition to restrain the EC from proceeding with balloting for position of presidential candidates for the 7th December elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2013<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP) has launched an online petition to collect one million signatures from Ghanaians to compel the Electoral Commission to reinstate the party\u2019s Flagbearer, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom as one of the presidential candidates in the 2016 elections.
