{"id":318908,"date":"2016-02-15T01:25:12","date_gmt":"2016-02-15T01:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/dont-call-me-beautiful-goes-on-show\/"},"modified":"2016-02-15T01:25:12","modified_gmt":"2016-02-15T01:25:12","slug":"dont-call-me-beautiful-goes-on-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2016\/02\/15\/dont-call-me-beautiful-goes-on-show\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Don\u2019t Call Me Beautiful\u2019 goes on show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1]<\/p>\n<div id=\"medsection1\" readability=\"68.457527333894\">\n<!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">Entertainment of Friday, 12 February 2016<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Graphic.com.gh <\/p>\n<p>2016-02-12<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\" readability=\"32\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.ghanaweb.com\/imagelib\/pics\/32706911.295.jpg\" alt=\"CashewGirls\" title=\"CashewGirls\" width=\"295\" height=\"163\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>Cashew Nut Girls\u2019 is one of the photos in the exhibition<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">Nana Kofi Acquah, a suave well-travelled Ghanaian photographer has kept the objectives of the 4th World Conference on Women held in the Chinese capital of Beijing in 1995 alive with a crusade that has unearthed women in diverse circumstances through the power of imagery.<\/p>\n<p>One of a few artists who has tirelessly ensured the dynamism and development of photography in Ghana, his photos are masked by protests, replete with criticism, veiled in hope and celebration and characterised by subtle confrontation.<\/p>\n<p>Acquah\u2019s work, which is currently on display at the Alliance Fran\u00e7aise in Accra, shows him as a master craftsman with images that effectively capture cultural values, emotion, achievement and resilience while commenting on stereotyping.<\/p>\n<p>Titled \u2018Don\u2019t Call Me Beautiful\u2019, the exhibition provides a factual account of the situation of the African woman \u2013 victories, woes, achievements, hopes, distress &#8211; and most importantly &#8211; how she gracefully braces herself and handles them.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as the African Male Feminist, he goes beyond mere documentation \u2013 indeed his pictures reveal a particular attention to detail alongside intense emotions and broad conceptualised planes of colour which reaches extremes in images such as \u201cWomen of Power\u201d and \u201cCashew Nut Girls\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Yet another photo, a portrait of an aged woman, recall the old tradition of body painting while unearthing a set of eyes that gaze at the viewer with wisdom, pain, sorrow, joy, courage, despair, confidence and experience.<\/p>\n<p>Undeniably, cohesiveness and singularity in his work are quite phenomenal.
