As to why some people will be angry over comparisons made about Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale is still mind boggling. I expect the fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy to come terms with some of these things because they are the most trending dancehall artistes of our time and it is prudent for any body to compare their activities.
These are some of the points we at Flex newspaper have compiled that will always make it necessary and relevant for people to compare them.
1. Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are two competing brands: In the history of dancehall music in Ghana, rivalry has been immense more than the days of Ex-Doe and Chicago. Though it started with Samini and Shatta Wale, now it is obvious that the real competition is between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. These are the guys running all the big shows both in Ghana and outside of it and they are operating in the same space.
2. Artistes with the largest fan base: There are no two ways that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are the artistes with the biggest fan base at the moment, and their fans are the very active fans who are always ready to fight with their last blood. No artiste in Ghana currently can compete with the fan base of these dancehall greats, therefore one`s achievement can only be compared to the other.
3. Artistes with big hits in the system: Look around the music industry and find out if there is any one with big hits as compared to Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. In short, they are the standards and the yard stick veteran musicians are even using when it comes to those controlling hit songs in our industry.
If all these scenarios and even more are very similar between them, then who has the authority to question why a journalist or a reporter who has seen performances from both of them should not compare and contrast.
The earlier the fans come to terms to some of these things and even expect more from industry observers, the better because it`s about to start on higher levels.
