PNC executives face impeachment over Mahama’s disqualification

An appointed officer of the People’s National Congress (PNC) plans to lead a campaign to impeach all the party’s national executives if the PNC Flagbearer, Dr. Edward Mahama’s disqualification from the 2016 presidential race is not overturned.

The officer, Director of Communications for the PNC, Emmanuel Wilson, told Citi News if Dr. Mahama’s name is not on the ballot paper come December 7, the executives would have failed their mandate and thus must be removed.

Mr. Wilson explained that “the very core mandate that was given to them by congress is that they were to ensure that we go to this election and not just go to this election but maximize our fortunes.”

“In the unlikely event the court refuses our plea, it will mean that we will not be able to contest this election and that would meant that the national executives have failed to execute their core mandate.”

“If it so happens then what it means is that there might be a process to start impeaching all the national executives because they have then failed to execute their core mandate,” Mr. Wilson stated.

Background

The EC disqualified Dr. Edward Mahama and 12 other presidential aspirants from contesting in the December elections after failing to meet the necessary requirements in the filing of their nomination forms.

In Dr. Mahama’s case, the EC explained that two subscribers to his nominations, also subscribed for another presidential candidate, thus breaking the rules.

The PNC has since given the EC till Friday to revoke the disqualification of its Flagbearer, Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama or face them in court because the party maintained that the disqualification of its Flagbearer was unconstitutional.
