Cape Coast Poly lauds Veep, Okudzeto for Uni status

The Cape Coast Polytechnic

The rector of the Cape Coast Polytechnic Prof. Lawrence Atepor has lauded Deputy Minister of Education Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for standing by the polytechnic in ensuring its conversion into a technical university.

According to him, though Mr. Ablakwa came under a series of attack for his perceived stance on favouring Ho Polytechnic over the Cape Coast Polytechnic in the technical university conversion process, he never turned his back on the polytechnic when they needed his support the most.

He added Mr. Ablakwa laboured in assisting the polytechnic to meet the requisite criteria for the polytechnic’s ultimate conversion into a technical university and therefore deserves credit for the approval and its subsequent conversion.

Mr. Ablakwa was accused by the Coalition of Central Regional Youth and even elements at the polytechnic of biases against the polytechnic to favour his home polytechnic – Ho Polytechnic.

Prof. Atepor also praised the vice president, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur for his support in the ultimate conversion of the polytechnic into a technical university.

He stressed that contrary to assertions that Mr. Amissah-Arthur, who is an indigene of Cape Coast, never assisted in the process, the vice president was always at the background supporting their cause.

Addressing a gathering at the polytechnic as part of the vice president’s visit to the polytechnic, Prof. Atepor appealed to government to support them with new set of hostel facilities to accommodate the increasing number of students in the school.

The polytechnic he added also lacks the needed human resource strength and therefore appealed to government to grant them the space to employ more personnel, especially lecturers.
