Konadu sues EC over disqualification

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings

The National Democratic Party (NDP) has sued the Electoral Commission in an attempt to get the latter to restore its presidential nominee, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings in the list of presidential hopefuls in the December 7 polls.

Mrs. Rawlings is the third person to sue the EC over her disqualification. The others are the presidential nominees of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, and Dr. Henry Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).

The EC recently at a press conference addressed by its chairperson, Charlotte Osei, announced the disqualification of 12 presidential candidates from participating in the forthcoming presidential elections as a result of anomalies in their nomination forms.

Disclosing the details of the suit in an interview with Accra-based Class FM, the NDP’s General Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong said the party is praying the court to place an interlocutory injunction on all activities connected to the forthcoming elections.

Also, he indicated they are praying the court to cause the inclusion of Mrs. Rawlings in the list of eligible presidential aspirants seeking to occupy the Flagstaff House.

Meanwhile, the EC has served notice it is ready for any suit against its decision.
