EC disqualification: Ayikoi Otoo leads PPP to court

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has sued the Electoral Commission in a bid to reverse the disqualification of its presidential nominee, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has gathered.

The PPP’s suit, Starr News’ Wilberforce Asare reported was filed by former Attorney General in the erstwhile Kufour administration, Nii Ayikoi Otoo.

In the suit sighted by, the PPP is praying the the High Court to issue an “order or prohibition to restrain the respondents from proceeding with balloting for position of presidential candidates for the 7th December 2016 elections.

“And for a further order directed against the 1st respondent in her capacity as returning officer for presidential to grant the applicant the opportunity to amend an alter the one anomaly found in his nomination papers as well as accept his nomination papers as amended or altered to enable him contest as a presidential candidate for the 7th December 2016 elections”.

The Electoral Commission on Monday 10 October announced the disqualification of Nduom and 11 others from the presidential race.

It explained that it was unable to accept the nominations of Nduom, because the number of subscribers in his forms did not make the requirements of regulation 7(2) of CI 94 and that “one subscriber, Mr Richard Aseda, with voter ID number 7812003957 endorsed Dr Nduom’s forms in the Central region and again endorsed the same forms with the same ID number in the Volta region.”
