Police debunks Mahama assassination claims

The Ghana Police Service has debunked reports that a young man came close to assassinating President John Dramani Mahama in Kintampo during his campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo region on Thursday, October 6.

Kintampo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Desmond Owusu Boampong, who dismissed the claims, however, confirmed that a young man was escorted out of the media stand but no gun was found on him.

Reports on Thursday indicated that a young man suspiciously breached the presidential platform and had a gun on him.

According to reports, the young man was arrested and interrogated by the Police.

But Supt. Owusu Boampong told Accra FM that claims that the young almost came close to assassinating the President are untrue.

”It is not true…even the security of the president will not allow anybody to get close to the platform – not even all police officers can get close to the president.”

“I will caution the general public to be circumspect with what they write on social media.”

The President is in Brong Ahafo region on a five day campaign tour asking voters to give him a second term ahead of the 2016 December elections.
