Police arrest three highway robbers at Kintampo

The Kintampo Divisional Police Command in the Brong Ahafo Region has arrested three suspected highway robbers.

The three; Yakubu Alhassan, 25, Musa Kalilu 18, and Karimo Walee, 25, were arrested early Tuesday morning carrying locally manufactured guns after attacking a driver and his conductor on the Kintampo Buipe road.

The Kintampo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Desmond Owusu Boampong told Citi News the incident happened “around 4:00am this morning [Tuesday].”

He said the Police patrol team in the area was confronted by a driver who claimed he had seen some men on motorbikes interrogating a driver and his mate close to a broken down vehicle and suspected something fishy.

“…So the patrol team quickly drove to the place. While approaching, they saw three gentlemen on unregistered motorbikes. They confronted them and while searching them, the police found some money and five mobile phones. So quickly they took them to the broken down vehicle and the driver and his mate identified two of the mobile phones as theirs. The Police subsequently took the suspects to the police station. After a further search on them, we had a locally manufactured pistol,” he added.

Barely three months ago, a similar incident occurred where a Police Officer was shot dead along the Kwame Danso-Atebubu road in the Brong Ahafo Region during an alleged robbery attack.

The officer was shot while escorting a commercial bus.
