Grant snubs Muntari in Black Stars squad despite apology

Ghana coach Avram Grant has not named Sulley Muntari in the squad for the Black Stars’ final AFCON 2017 qualifier against Rwanda despite the veteran midfielder’s recent apology.

Grant named a 23-man squad without the former AC Milan and former Inter Milan midfielder.

Muntari was indefinitely suspended from the national team after physically assaulting a management member during Ghana’s chaotic World Cup campaign in Brazil.

His apology was seen by many as a window to return to the national team but Israeli coach Avram Grant has decided to look beyond the veteran midfielder at least for the game against the Amavubi in September.

There are still some who believe that Muntari will part of Ghana’s team that will play at the AFCON in Gabon next January.

Also out of the team is Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah who played for the defending champions in their win over the weekend.

There is also a callback for Adam Kwarasey, while captain Asamoah Gyan is also in the squad despite struggling for game time at Shanghai SIPG.

Here is the squad named by Avram Grant:

Goalkeepers: Razak Braimah (Cordoba, Spain), Adam Kwarasey (Rosenborg, Norway) Richard Ofori (Wa All Stars)

Defenders: Harrison Afful (Columbus Crew, USA), Daniel Amartey (Leicester City, England), Jeffery Schlupp (Leicester City, England), Baba Rahman (Schalke, Germany), John Boye (Sivasspor, Turkey), Jonathan Mensah (Anzhi, Russia), Edwin Gyimah (Orlando Pirates, South Africa), Kadri Mohammed (AshantiGold)

Midfielders: Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese, Italy), Afriyie Acquah (Torino, Italy), Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid, Spain) Samuel Tetteh (Leifering, Austria), Mubarak Wakaso (Panathinaikos, Greece), Frank Acheampong (Anderlecht, Belgium), Alfred Duncan (Sassuolo, Italy), Christian Atsu (Chelsea, England),

Forwards: Asamoah Gyan (Shanghai SIPG, China), Jordan Ayew (Aston Villa, England), Ebenezer Assifuah (Sion, Switzerland), David Accam (Chicago Fire, USA)
