The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) says if the Electoral Commission fails to check how the National Democratic Congress funds its campaign, then it has failed Ghanaians.
The policy advisor of the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw, told Citi News that when the EC is asked to state how the NDC, is funding its campaign, it [EC] says that it has no idea how that is being done.
“The Electoral Commission has that responsibility to check the funding of the political parties. If you tell the EC to find out how the NDC is funding its campaign, they will tell you that they don’t know,” he said.
Asamoah Siaw added that if the EC is unable to do this, then it means that they have failed Ghana.
“That is why we say that they have reneged on their responsibility to ensure that funding that goes to an NDC campaign is purely contributions from party people and not state funds. If the EC cannot do that, then they have failed the country.”
This statement comes on the back of some reports that the president is buying votes by giving gifts to some people in the Western Region.
The NDC has been campaigning intensively in the Western Region in the past week.
The president donated outboard motors to fishermen in Axim when he went there as part of the campaign.
