Airtel Ghana, Best CSR Company for Education and Community Relations has commissioned and handed over a set of ultra-modern transmitters and other equipment to serve Kanyiti FM (95.7), a community radio station for the people of Salaga and its environs.
The radio station will facilitate access to information and empower indigenes and the teeming listeners of Kanyiti FM (95.7).
The project, which was funded under Airtel Ghana’s flagship CSR initiative, Touching Lives, involved furnishing the radio station with transmitters and equipment to get it up and running for the community.
This project came to light through the efforts of Fatawu Fuseini and his wife who had a vision of helping the inhabitants of Salaga and its environs gain access to information through the medium of a community radio station.
They were nominated by Rev. Emmanuel Uzuanu who resides in Sunyani on the company’s multiple-award winning CSR Television series, Airtel Touching Lives.
Samuel Gyimah, National Distribution Manager, Airtel Ghana commenting at the event said “Airtel Ghana supported this project through our award-winning flagship sustainable CSR programme – Airtel Touching Lives, an initiative to give a platform for individuals and communities to inspire hope and improve the quality of life for all. We live in the information age where the best way to empower people is to give them access to information. At Airtel Ghana, we have led this effort through the provision of superior voice and data services across the country. This project is a further step on the part of our business to ensure the people of Salaga and its environs are empowered and informed.”
“I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to all stakeholders who made this a reality and most importantly to Fatawu and his wife for having this life-changing dream and nursing it to fruition. We believe that this radio station will serve the purpose for which it was established in this community and surrounding villages,” he added.
Abdul Fatawu Abel, Director of the station said, “the benefit of this project to our community is immeasurable. Airtel Ghana has through its Touching Lives programme invested in this laudable initiative that will enhance access to information for the development of this community and surrounding areas. On behalf of this community, I extend our profound gratitude to Airtel Ghana and its employees for the commitment they have shown in sponsoring this facility.”
The District Chief Executive of East Gonja, Mohammed Amin Lukman who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event commended Airtel Ghana for supporting the good works of Fatawu through its Touching Lives Programme calling on corporate institutions to emulate Airtel Ghana’s example.
He said “we are aware of the great work this radio station has been doing for the Salaga and surrounding communities since it was opened. The support from Airtel I am told will further widen the coverage of the station to serve other regions as well. I want to use this opportunity to urge the radio station to use its platform to preach peace as we approach the elections later this year.”
Kanyiti FM fully owned by Mr. Abdul Fatawu Abel was established in 2012 to educate, inform and entertain the people of Salaga and surrounding villages.
