B/A: Trio arrested for unlawful arms possession charged

The three persons currently in police custody for unlawful possession of firearms have been charged with unlawful possession of arms, according to the Brong Ahafo Regional Police.

The trio; Kande Bawa, 48, Samed Rauf, 18, and Somaila Gyaboni, 50, were arrested after the police seized 200 pieces of AK 47 ammunition, two AK 47 riffles and two locally made shotguns from their homes at Potor near Kintampo, in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, confirmed to Citi News that, “the three have been remanded by a magistrate court”.

“When the three were sent to court, the court remanded them into police custody to assist in investigations and also to reappear before the court on 8th July 2016”.

ASP Tawiah indicated that, the police had no doubt the three were working together to stir up the decade-long chieftaincy-related dispute in Potor, which led to the death of one person in May.

Police in the area have since intensified patrols in Potor to avert any possible clashes.
