Black Queens to face Germany in friendly

Ghana’s Black Queens are set to face Germany in an international friendly on July 22. The Germans are using the game to prepare for their 2016 Olympic Games Women championship group opener against Cameroon.

The Black Queens did not qualify for the Olympics but the match provides an opportunity to test themselves ahead of their Africa Women Championships in Zimbabwe later this year.

The German Football Federation confirmed the friendly on its website.

“Ghana were our first-choice opponents because we desperately wanted to test ourselves against an African team to round up our preparation for the Olympics,” General Manager Doris Fitschen said.

“Their style of play is very similar to our first opposition at the Games, Zimbabwe.

“We will contest the match using our entire 18-player Olympic squad.” The game will come off in the city of Paderborn.
