Ghana’s Szogedi qualifies for Rio 2016 Judo competition

Hungarian-born Ghanaian judoka Szandra Szogedi has qualified for the judo event at the 2016 Olympic Games.

She will be taking part in the 63kg category for women.

She got her slot in the Olympic Games at the Almaty Judo Grand Prix event in Kazakhstan where she clocked 444 points.

She was part of the Ghanaian team which included Emmanuel Nartey, Victor Ahiavor, Razak Abugiri, Ali Alhassan, and Timmy Alhassan as the other judokas.

Szogedi is married to Ghanaian Alex Amoako and that makes her eligible to compete for Ghana in the discipline.

In the 2015 African Judo Championships in Gabon, she won a medal bronze and she was awarded a Rio 2016 scholarship by the Ghana Olympic Committee to help her get ready for the Games.
