Speaker of Parliament swears in new Abuakwa North MP

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho has sworn in the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Gifty Twum Apofo.

Twum Ampofo replaces the late J.B Danquah-Adu who was killed in February this year.

She won the bye-election which was conducted in the constituency in March which she polled 89.60% of the total votes.

She will spend about six months in pParliament before the country goes to the polls on November 7,2016.

The Speaker of Parliament after swearing the new MP in on Tuesday, May 17, advised her to emulate the principles of the late J.B Danquah-Adu.

Speaking to Citi News’ Duke Mensah Opoku who was in Parliament today, Gifty Twum Ampofo said she was ready to fill the big shoes of the late MP.

The Abuakwa North MP also said she is prepared to give out her best despite the short frame of time she will be in Parliament.

In another development, the Speaker of Parliament admonished MPs to take enhance their security.

He said that even though the leadership of Parliament is trying as much as possible to increase security for members, they should also take their personal security seriously.

He made the comment in relation to the death of JB Danquah-Adu who was killed at his home in Accra as well as the MP for Okere, Dan Botwe who was attacked at his home by armed robbers.

Parliament resumed today after it members went on recess for the Easter season.

The House is expected to pass about 29 bills before it goes on another break.
