EC investigates challenged registrants in Northern Region

The Electoral Commission in the Northern Region has began a process to investigate all registrants whose eligibility were questioned during the just ended limited voter registration exercise.

Party agents at the various registration centres filled forms after challenging the ages or nationality of some registrants.

The Northern Regional EC Director, Bruce Ayisi, in a Citi News interview, disclosed that the region recorded a total of 124,561 would be fresh voters for the November 7 polls.

He said over 3,000 challenge forms were filled during the process and that a fact finding committee is investigating the issues. He said those whose eligibility are confirmed would be given their voter ID cards, whereas those who are confirmed to be non-eligible will have their names removed from the register.

The governing National Democratic Congress'(NDC), Northern Regional Director of Elections, Tanko Rashid, alias computer, said the party protested the eligibility of 2,025 fresh applicants across the region.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional Secretary, Sule Salifu said the party’s agents filled over 1000 challenge forms.

Both Tanko Rashid and Sule Salifu commended the Electoral Commission for a good job done.
