MMDAs must deepen social accountability – NCCE Boss

Northern Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has tasked Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to be more transparent in the execution of their transformational agenda.

Alhaji Abdul Razak A. Saani decried the disconnect between the various assemblies and the citizenry in the use of the District Assemblies Common Fund.

He maintained that the citizenry deserved to know how budgetary allocations meant for developmental projects are spent.

Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani was addressing a day’s forum on the District Assemblies budgetary allocations and their expenditure organized by Penplusbyte, a Non Governmental Organization.

He observed that some assembly members in the Northern Region were uninformed on issues of local governance and that they needed orientation.

He added that most of the assembly members lacked the expertise to address the concerns of electorate.

Alhaji Abdul Razak also condemned the politicization of issues of national concern. Some of the participants grieved over the absence of lorry parks at some vantage points within the business capital.

They therefore called for the construction of lorry parks at the Tamale central and Aboabo markets.

They further impressed upon the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to decongest the streets. Management of Pent Plus Byte asked the various assemblies to intensify their fight against corruption and improve sanitation.
