Charles Boateng and Samuel Tetteh scored in either half for WAFA as they beat Asante Kotoko in Sogakope 2-0 on the opening day of the 2016 Ghana Premier League.

The Sogakope-based team had been fairly good at home last season and were hoping to begin their campaign on positive note.

They had more of the ball in the opening minutes but Asante Kotoko also grew into the match and started to look for opportunities.

But in the 21st minute, their goalkeeper Felix Annan, who was returning to a face the team he was loaned to last season, got injured as he tried to stop WAFA from scoring.

He was replaced by Eric Ofori Antwi but the new goalkeeper soon picked the ball from the net.

His efforts to parry a shot from WAFA captain Martin Antwi sent the ball into the air for Charles Boateng to head into an empty net after 41 minutes.

The score was doubled after 47 minutes when Samuel Tetteh, who was named as Man Of The Match, drilled a shot past Ofori Antwi after being picked out by a pass from midfield.

The result sends WAFA to the top of the league table ahead of the rest of the opening round’s matches which will be played on Sunday.
