The police in the Eastern Region have in separate operations arrested 36 suspected wee smokers and miscreants, including a 64-year-old man, from their hideouts in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri municipality.

The suspects, currently in police custody assisting in investigations, were reported to have been attacking and robbing individuals at night in the municipality.

DCOP Awungbutoge Awuni, the Regional Police Commander, named the suspects as Kofi Mawuli, 39; Godwin Senanu, 29; Kingsley Mensah, 25; Prince Tyisha, 50; Kwaku Yalley, 39; Jude Cudjo, 20; Daniel Yeboah, 20; Raymond Adu, 22; Rasheed Haruna, 27; Dauda Abdul Hamid, 46; Francis Kwaku, 32 and Joseph Arhin, 28 years old.

Others are Shaka Denis, 51; Emmanuel Nyarko, 64; Aryeh Kofi, 25; Kwame Sagoe, 25; Ampem Darko, 33; Mustapha Fuseini, 23; Adu Francis, 34; Prosper Komabu, 63; Korku Tosu, 40 and Lamptey Francis, 28.

The rest are Owusu Daniel, 26; Oto Kwame, 40; Tiri Gariba, 56; Daniel Hansan, 20; Samuel Ganyo, 19; Andrews Ansah, 19; Alex Atuobi, 35; Atadana Giral, 45; Joseph Afobele Boye, 2;, Christian Adukpo, 18 and Solomon Awuah, 22.

According to DCOP Awuni, “The joint operations were embarked on by the Kyebi and the Nsawam police commands and….we managed to grab the gang leader, Dauda Abdul Hamid, with some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.”

He said the dry leaves had been sent to the Kyebi Divisional Headquarters for further action.

DCOP Awuni hinted that the police also succeeded in impounding 11 unregistered motorbikes.

The regional police chief indicated that the suspects had been detained at the Kyebi and the Nsawam police stations for screening and that those found culpable after investigations would be put before court.
