Mr. Ebo Barton Odro, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Cape Coast North Constituency, has advised pupils at the basic level to take advantage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance academic work.

The First Deputy Speaker said this at a ceremony to commission an ICT centre at the Nyinasin MA Basic School in Cape Coast aimed at developing pupils interest in the study of science at the basic school level.

The ICT centre has full internet connectivity and is expected to serve school pupils at Nyinasin, Koforidua, Brabedze, Dahia and the surrounding communities.

It is the fourth center of its kind in the constituency since Mr. Odro took office as MP for the constituency, exhibiting his commitment to development of ICT education.

“With the establishment of the ICT centres, students would get the opportunity to acquire scientific knowledge and practical skills through experimentation. It will go a long way to improve the knowledge of students and pupils in ICT subjects, significantly in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)”. he said.

Mr. Odro said education had gradually moved from the period of limiting teaching and learning to the classroom to a stage of ICT and internet connectivity and  pupils at the basic school level should not be deprived of such an opportunity.

He further advised the pupils to desist from using technology to engage in vices like cyber-crime known in the local parlance as ‘sakawa’ and watching of pornographic materials.
