The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has hinted of a targeted policy aimed at reducing the importation of poultry products.

The policy they say will also improve local production of poultry.

Statistics available at the Ministry indicate that only 42 percent of domestic consumption is supplied by domestic production, while 58 percent are imported from European Union and the United States.

Speaking to Citi News during a tour of a facility at the Tema Harbour, a Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Hannah Bissiw, reiterated government`s commitment to revamp the agricultural sector.

She said, “the policy is part of measures that we are putting in place to make sure that we have a future where we do not import unemployment and export employment but we have a future where employment is created in our country by reviving the poultry industry.”

She said such measures will help to also safeguard the jobs in the value chain process.
