Jamie Carragher believes Aston Villa are the worst team in the history of the Premier League and, having witnessed their performance in Sunday’s 6-0 thrashing by Liverpool, many will agree.
‘They are an embarrassment,’ Sportsmail columnist Carragher said on Sky Sports. ‘How can those players by playing in the Premier League?
‘I can’t imagine one Premier League manager looking at that team and thinking there is one player I would like to take into my squad.
‘I was reliably informed that Derby and Sunderland were maybe the worst, but forget about what points they had – I think they are the worst I’ve seen. That’s as bad as it goes.’
Carragher is right – Derby County in 2007-08 finished on 11 points and Sunderland in 2005-06 finished on 15.
Villa have already reached 16 points with 12 matches remaining, so won’t set any unwanted records. But performance-wise, there is certainly a case to be made.
