Gyasi® receiving his prize from SGS’s Appiah
A resplendent display of golf characterized the SGS Golf Day at the Damang Golf Club in the Western Region over the weekend.
The well-patronized 18-hole competition, drawing golfers from Obuasi, Tarkwa, Bogoso and Ankobra teed-off the Club’s 2016 golfing calendar.
Damang’s Sampson Gyasi produced a respectable 77 score to reign in the Men’s Group A category with Forster Korang 78, and William Tawiah 80, following in that order.
The Men’s Group B saw Francis Ampai 35, Bogoso Ankobra Golf Club finishing first on count back, while Enoch Nii Adjei, and Francis Nyarkoh place second and third respectively.
It was Mike Vessey, who grabbed the ultimate prize in the men’s Group C with a 33 score, beating Mike Hurtubise, 31 by two strokes, who also beat Peter Damuah by just a stroke.
Agnes Adams, Bogoso Ankobra Golf Club dominated the ladies event with a score of 38 with Paulina Acheampong and Flora Hurtubise following at second and third places.
Golfers like Chichi Jackson, Kojo Bannie and P. Q. Amponsah gave the competition a professional touch with a keenly-contested pros event.
Club captain Pius Appiah lauded the Management of SGS for being the first Company to sponsor the Club’s competition and called on other companies in and around the Tarkwa area to follow suit saying “We are indeed grateful to SGS for this support. Their support which has brought us here today has taken the sport a step further by way of promotion.”
Laboratory Manager of SGS (Damang Mine), Wilfred Appiah also expressed joy with the level of participation and promised to continue to sponsor competitions in the years ahead.
