The newly sworn in Honorary Consul of Republic of Peru in Ghana, Ghassan Antoine Yared has called on government to establish a Ghanaian Embassy in Peru.

He said the time has come for the two countries to work together to have a diplomatic or consular representation in Peru.

Mr. Yared, who was speaking at an official appointment ceremony at the residence of the Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Peru in Accra on Thursday, said Ghana and Peru were working in diverse areas for the mutual benefit of the two countries but both countries need to work hard to create a balance.

“My role therefore as the Honorary Consul is to work cooperatively with the Chargé d’Affaires to strengthen and deepen the relations between Ghana and Peru. However, Ghana does not currently have any diplomatic or consular representation in Peru and I strongly believe that this is the time for us to work persistently to create a balance,” he stated.

He pledged to help promote Peru through trade, culture and tourism and also help to promote Ghanaian products on the Peruvian market.

“In our world today, no country can ever live in isolation. The role of international relations among countries therefore cannot be overemphasized, and I am very happy that Ghana and Peru are working in diverse areas for the mutual benefit of the two countries. My desire and intention primarily is to work with a keen and serious interest to develop new ventures and I intend to develop strategies that will help forge strong bilateral relations between Peru and Ghana both diplomatically and commercially, he said.

He disclosed that with the economic dynamism of the South American region, there were many useful experiences and opportunities that could be shared between Ghana and Peru in the areas of agriculture, tourism, cultural exchanges, commerce and gastronomy.

Dr. Eliot Gavira  Valverde, Chargé d’Affaires, after reading the Supreme Resolution, which confirms the appointment of the new Honorary Consul of Peru in Ghana, congratulated Mr Yared on his appointment.

“It is my wish that Mr Yared runs an excellent administration as Honorary Consul of Peru in Ghana to promote a positive image of Peru and establish closer trade relations between the two countries with the support of our diplomatic mission,” Dr. Valverde added.
