NAGRAT threatens strike over unpaid salary arrears

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in a letter addressed to the National Labour Commission have served notice of a strike should government fail to address their grievances by the 29th of this month.

In a letter intercepted by Citi News, NAGRAT cited among their concerns the non-payment of salary arrears to 2013 and 2014 batches of newly recruited teachers, teachers on promotion and others who were reinstated or re-engaged, and also outstanding transfer grants and allowances to deserving teachers.

Government in an earlier agreement with NAGRAT scheduled the payment of the outstanding salary arrears on June 2015.

But according to NAGRAT, government failed to heed the deadline.

NAGRAT has been demanding increases in the salaries of teachers following the increases in utility tariffs earlier this year.
