A 21-year-old Ghanaian is facing fraud charges after he allegedly duped people into buying empty iPhone 6 boxes, Toronto Police say.

According to police, on Jan. 17, 2016, the 21-year-old man met with another man in the area of Islington Avenue and Dixon Road after seeing a posting on kijiji advertising the sale of an iPhone 6.

The 21-year-old man gave the seller cash for what was supposed to be an iPhone 6 in a sealed box.

But when the buyer opened the box, the only thing inside was rice.

Police say a second man fell victim to the same scam on February 6 after meeting with a man in the area of Albion Road and Kipling Avenue.

A suspect was arrested in connection with both incidents on February 10, 2016.

Gyimah Andrews Boateng of Toronto is facing two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of false pretence under $5,000, and two counts of breaching a court order.

Investigators said there could be more victims and asked anyone with information to call Det.
