The National Chief Imam has tasked the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam and the regional Zongo Chief to immediately wade into the turmoil that visited Old Tafo with a view to finding a lasting solution to it.

Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has in a statement on the riots which is thought to have claimed two lives when Muslim youth went on rampage in Old Tafo in Kumasi, expressed concern about the situation.

“I am shocked at the events and deem the event as a dangerous trend which should be stemmed immediately. I hereby task the Regional Chief Imam and the Regional Zongo Chief to wade into the matter immediately with a view to resolving it so that it does not escalate” he said.

The cleric said being an election year, the Old Tafo trouble should be stopped now before it exacerbates.

“In pursuance of the responsibility bestowed upon me by God, I ask for calm and advise that nobody should do anything that can derail the peace in the country” he said.

To the media he prayed that “they do not drag the Old Tafo trouble into the religious sphere because doing so is dangerous and would not augur well for the country. The Old Tafo conflict has nothing to do with the theology of Christianity and Islam. The media should be careful and avoid treating it as such in the interest of the peace of the country.”

The Ashantis have a wonderful relationship with their Zongo counterparts, a bond steeped in history he recalled, adding “let nobody do anything that will damage this fantastic historical fact.”

He prayed for the nation’s peace and stability.
