The Minister for Youth and Sports designate, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has vowed to deal with any form of opposition he is likely to encounter at the Ministry should he get approval from the Appointments Committee.
The current Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo Constituency was vetted on Monday after he was nominated by the President earlier this year.
Over the years, there has been a strong perception that some people, or the ‘Mafia’ as others have labelled it, have been ‘orchestrating’ happenings at the Ministry and in his interaction with the Committee, he declared his intentions to face any group of people who would try to impede his work.
“If there is a ‘Mafia’, I am prepared to face them head on. If there are any inside groups or a cabal, it has not not met Nii Lante Vanderpuye yet.”
Hon. Vanderpuye went on to state that he would focus on all sports and not only football and also mentioned that he would like to stay in office for as long as possible. “I will be a sports minister as the name suggests.
I will not be a Minister for football. I will give equal attention to all 27 sporting disciplines under the National Sports Authority.”
“My prayer is that I will last longer than expected but then, the President has the right to appoint and remove ministers.”
