INSPECTOR GENERAL of Police (IGP) John Kudalo and heads of other security agencies in the country will go to Agogo in the Ashanti Region today in an attempt to find lasting solution to the raging security threat in the area.

Mr. Kudalo was in Kumasi last Sunday in connection with the recent security issues at Ejura, and it has become necessary that he and other security capos storm the region once again today to quell the tension at Agogo, which has been sparked by the atrocities of Fulani herdsmen.

Outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi Mensah, made the disclosure during a press briefing organized by the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinating Council (REGSEC) in Kumasi yesterday.

He blamed the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agogo, Kwadwo Baah Agyeman and Owusu Bempah, a native of Agogo, for inciting the people of the town against people of Fulani extraction, which he said had led to bloodbath and security problems in the area.

Mr. Anarfi Mensah announced that REGSEC was in the process of officially writing to the IGP and to the speaker of parliament to invite Mr Kwadwo Baah Agyeman to face REGSEC over his inciting remarks at a recent press conference.

.

He stated that the Ashanti Regional Police Command had also invited Owusu Bempah to question him over his incitement of the residents of Agogo to attack people of Fulani extraction, which had brought about chaos at the place.

Mr. Anarfi Mensah said REGSEC had come out with a roadmap, which he was sure, would go a long way to help bring lasting peace at Agogo and the nearby communities where there had been chaotic scenes leading to deaths.

He claimed that in the short term, REGSEC had ordered that a joint police/military team should be sent to Agogo, starting today to late March, to protect life and property.

The outgoing regional minister said the authorities concerned should come out with proper ways that would help track down the arrival and movement of the Fulani nomads at various entry points of the country.

Mr. Anarfi Mensah indicated that in the long term, REGSEC would implement policies and strategies that would help end the influx of Fulani nomads to Agogo and other areas adding, “Our objective is to get rid of nomadic Fulani herdsmen from Agogo.”

He said emphatically that the security agencies, especially the police in the region, were on top of the security situation, urging the people of Agogo and the nearby areas to remain calm.
