From Issah Alhassan, Kumasi

nabawuTHE FLAGBEARER of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo has assured residents of Zongo Communities that an NPP administration under his leadership will protect them and improve their living conditions.

Nana Akufo Addo says his government will implement laudable policies and programmes that will ensure the welfare of all citizenry including those living in Zongo communities and northern settlers across the country.

Responding to long standing vile propaganda by the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) that the NPP was against the development of Zongo people, as well as northerners, the NPP flagbearer noted that the UP tradition had always held northern indigenes in high esteem, a feat which he said was demonstrated by the constant selection of a northerner as the party’s running mate.

Addressing the maiden National Conference of the Nasara Wing of the party in Kumasi, Nana Addo assured that the Aliens Compliance Order, which was introduced under the Busia administration, resulting in the exodus of foreign nationals out of this country, will never come back.

He said the NPP had been a victim of vile propaganda full of blatant lies and deceit that the NPP would chase foreign nationals of Zongo descent away from this country, expressing regret that rather unfortunately some people continued to buy into the wicked scheme of the ruling party.

“It is the NDC that is putting fear in our innocent brothers and sisters living in Zongo communities that, when we come to power we will chase you away. “But I stand before you today feeling so much elated and appreciative of the support that the Nasara Wing has over the years given to me and the NPP; I would like to promise you that I will continue from where President John Agyekum Kufuor left off and help improve the livelihood of people in the Zongo communities,” he promised.

The NPP leader said he was particularly worried at the abysmal performance of the NPP in the Zongo communities as far as previous elections were concerned and pleaded with the Chiefs and opinion leaders to give the NPP the chance by supporting the quest for change in leadership of this country.

He noted that Ghana has always enjoyed cordial relationship between the two dominant religious sect; Christians and Muslims stressing, therefore, that attempts by any political group to destabilise such long standing peace must be met with stiffer opposition.

THE ZONGO DEVELOPMENT FUND (ZDF)
Nana Addo stated that he remains true to the promise he made during the 2008/12 electioneering campaign to establish a fund purposely geared towards transforming Zongo communities in the country.

He said the Zongo Development Fund would be set aside to revamp settling communities and Zongo areas and would involve improvements in infrastructure, education, health and business activities of the people.

Nana Addo indicated that President Mahama has inflicted pain on Ghanaians through the introduction of harsh economic policies that have negative repercussions for the ordinary Ghanaians including those living in Zongo communities

He said never in the history of this country had Ghanaians suffered from leadership crisis than now, adding that unprecedented bribery and corruption have pervaded the society under the watch of President Mahama.

“It is no longer secret that the NDC and President Mahama have put this country on the path of destruction and it is only the change of this administration that can reverse the trend and restore hope in the people,” he observed.

TRIBUTE TO FOUNDERS OF NPP ZONGO WING
Nana Addo also paid glowing tribute to some personalities whose valuable efforts led to the formation and recognition of the Zongo wing of the party.

He said individuals such as Alhaji Fuseini Maiga, Alhaji Tanko Salisu, Hajia Azumi, Sadat Kasoa, Amadu Baba and Baba Salaga, as well as others who began the formation of the Muslims Association Party which has now metamorphosed into the Nasara wing could not be forgotten when history of the NPP was being written.

“I must say that what I have seen here today gives me hope that victory is on its way coming.

NPP HAVE THE MEN AND THE MAGIC WAND
Nana Akufo Addo said it is only the NPP that possesses the requisite human resource capital as well as programmes and policies to change the destiny of this country. He said just like former President Kufuor took over in 2001, when the country had virtually collapsed, but managed to put it back in a good shape, leaving behind a vibrant economy in 2008, the next NPP government will work hard to transform the economy because “our party has the men capable of doing a good job”

The NPP presidential hopeful urged Ghanaians to have faith in him and his capable running mate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, to transform the destiny of Ghana and restore it to its past glories. “We will do something which no one has ever done before in this country; all we need is for Ghanaians to give us the chance and the opportunity,” he pledged.

The National Coordinator of the Nasara Wing, Abdulai Kamal-Deen said the conference was to afford the wing the opportunity to strategise ahead of the 2016 elections. He said the NPP was poised to improve its performance in the Zongo communities during the November 7 election, emphasising that the party has the support of eminent personalities and leaders in the Zongo communities across the country.

On his part, the acting General Secretary of the party, Mr. John Boadu, said Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia would not misuse public funds but would judiciously utilise it for the benefit of the people. “Nana and Bawumia will not misappropriate SADA cash, they will not spend oil cash to brand buses at the expense of the people,” He noted, adding that the NDC has gradually lost touch with the realities on the grounds hence their consistent decline in electoral fortunes.
