‘Wives, Submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church; and is the savior of the body.

Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their husbands in everything.’ Ephesians 5:22-24.

The world indeed is changing but the word of God remains the same. It is still the will of God that wives must submit to their husbands.

Many women today disregard this word, because they feel things are not the same as it was in the days of old, so why must they heed to this law of the Lord.

‘Gone were the days when it was a man’s world; now what a man can do, a woman can do better.’ Hmmm! Women are now fighting for equality with men, even in their matrimonial homes.

Can two captains steer one ship? I don’t think so.

I do believe that we as women must insist on our right to be heard and recognized, but not for equality.

Why do I say this? Because a woman can never be a man, neither can a man be a woman.

God has given to each sex the role they are meant to play and trying to change it is an insult to God.

Note, God is not a chauvinist; but He knows the strengths and weaknesses of both sexes and He has declared that a woman be under submission to the man.

In the marital homes today, many women fail to recognize their husbands as the head.

They challenge them at any given point, insult them or humiliate them in front of their children.

Some even cause their children to disrespect their fathers.

It doesn’t matter your position in life, whether it is above, below or even equal to your husband; he is still your head.

Learn to respect him both in private and in public.

It is true that some men are bullies and as such cause their wives to disrespect them; but my dear women let us remember that, ‘a gentle answer turns away strife, but grievous words stir up anger. ’ Proverbs 15:1.

If your husband is the troublesome type that gives no peace, despite your respect and submission to him, take it to the Lord in prayer, ‘and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’ Philippians 4:7

Never look down on your husband because you earn more money than him or because he’s lost his job.

Whatever situation he may find himself in, does not change his status before God, neither should it change yours.

Your arrogance and pride might cause you to lose a good man and good men are hard to find.

Always remember that no matter your status or position in life, your husband is your pillar as you are his. If you let him down, you let yourself down.

A submissive and humble wife is the pride of her husband.

He would hold you high wherever he goes and he will always protect you.

Remember, a wife is either the builder of her home or the destroyer of it.

‘Beauty is vain, favor is deceitful; but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.’ Proverbs 31:30.

Let the fear of the Lord give you wisdom and guard your heart in building your matrimonial home and keeping it strong and happy. Shalom!

May the peace of Christ reign in your hearts!

Watch out for the second part of this article titled ‘Husbands Love your Wives’; it’s a command.

Stay blessed and know that Jesus loves you dearly just as I do.
