Ghana-Police-Service-EmblemA 30-year-old Bimbilla Police officer has been shot from a close range in the ribs and killed by unknown armed robber at Kasei near Ejura/Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region.

Confirming the news to The Chronicle via telephone, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mohammed Yussif Tanko, identified the deceased Police Officer as Lance Corporal Alexander Kyeremeh, stationed at Bimbila in the Northern Region.

ASP Tanko explained that sometime around 2 pm last Friday, the robbers attacked a bus which was en route to Kumasi and ordered all passengers on board to come out of the vehicle. According to him, the passengers were asked to lie down and bring out their money.

L/C Kyeremeh, who was in plain cloth, brought out the money on him but later decided to hide it in his pants at the blind side of three of the armed robbers, but unfortunately the fourth robber, who had laid ambush, monitoring the proceedings came out and shot the Bimbilla Police officer in his right rib, killing him instantly.

Responding to a question, PRO Tanko told The Chronicle that no arrest has been made and security has been intensified on the Atebubu-Ejura stretch of road. He appealed to residents in Ejura and its environs to relay information about suspicious people to the police.
